Learn How The City Runs At Danbury's Citizens Government Academy

DANBURY, Conn. -- Mayor Mark Boughton is pulling the curtain back and showing how the city government is run as he once again invite the public to participate in the third "Mayor's Citizens Government Academy." 

Applications for the eight-week academy are now available on the city's website homepage, www., under News.  Individuals interested in the program must submit an application to the mayor's office by Sept. 2.

The academy provides individuals an opportunity to learn about city government through first-hand experience; and gain exposure to the wide range of government services, functions and issues. Two-hour sessions will be held once a week for eight weeks. Each session will begin at 6:30 and end at 8:30 p.m. at specified locations. The program start and end dates are Sept. 8 to Nov. 3.

The objective of the program is to learn how to access city government, and to familiarize citizens with the structure, operations and activities of Danbury's government. The program will help encourage citizens to become involved in the city's government, and enhance their ability to communicate effectively with city officials.

The program's creates informed citizens who will become involved in community activities and volunteer for mayoral-appointed boards, commissions and task forces or become involved in city governance.

Classes are limited to 30 students. The academy is open to Danbury residents and property owners over the age of 18.
