I-84 Westbound Near Danbury Closes This Weekend; Eastbound Date Changes

DANBURY, Conn. -- Closure of the westbound Interstate 84 bridge near the Southeast, N.Y.-Danbury, Conn. border will begin at 5 p.m. Sept. 21, but the New York State Department of Transportation has changed the date of construction for the eastbound highway.

I-84 will be closed in the westbound direction only this weekend as repairs start on the bridge that carries the highway over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast.

Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. Route 6 between Exit 1 in Danbury and Exit 20 (the Interstate 684 interchange) in Southeast.  I-84 is expected to open and the detours are planned to be removed by Sunday afternoon.

Officials are telling area residents to seek alternative routes and allow for extra travel time.

Notably, New York officials have changed the date for I-84 eastbound's closure, which originally was scheduled and publicized as taking place the following weekend.  The eastbound direction will be closed the weekend of Oct. 19-20.

Additionally, Dingle Ridge Road will be closed in the days leading up to and after the highway closures. Left turns will be prohibited on Route 6 to allow the I-84 traffic to detour.
