Former Danbury Teacher's Sex Trial To Begin Later This Month

DANBURY, Conn. — Former Danbury High School teacher Kayla Mooney, accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, is slated to go to trial on Tuesday, June 28, according to the News-Times.

Mooney, 25, is accused of buying bought alcohol for a 17-year-old student and then having sex with him, according to officials. A science teacher, Mooney, of Danbury, was arrested last year and charged with second-degree sexual assault and providing alcohol to a minor.

Following her arrest, Mooney was fired for failing to maintain her certification. She faces 10 years in prison and will be required to register as a sexual offender if convicted, added News-Times.
