First Snow Flurries Of Season Fly In Danbury As Freeze Warning Settles In

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — If you ventured outside mid-afternoon on Sunday (or glanced out the window at the right time), you may have been startled to see a few snow flurries flying in parts of Fairfield County.

The flurries were light and fleeting but served as a bitter reminder that fall is settling in across New England and winter is on its way.

The freezing temperatures were settling in Sunday evening and were expected to last into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A freeze warning remained in effect from 2 to 10 a.m. Monday across Fairfield County and most of Connecticut as well as New York's Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey.

Temperates are expected to sink below freezing for the second night in a row, the weather service said.

Sensitive vegetation and outdoor plants could be damaged or killed due to the low temperatures, the weather service said.

Monday should be sunny, with high temperatures reaching the mid-60s. Overnight lows in the 40s and daytime highs in the 60s under partly sunny skies are in forecast for the rest of the week as well.
