FBI Report Shows Lower Crime In Danbury, Surrounding Towns

DANBURY, Conn. -- An FBI report released last week says crime continues to decrease in Danbury and the surrounding area, including Bethel, Brookfield, Redding and Ridgefield, according to the NewsTimes.com.

Gov. Dannel Malloy credited the lower crime rate to criminal justice reforms over the past four years in the state.

One expert described the region’s recent lower crime number as an “almost mirror image” of most American towns, said the NewsTimes.com

Bethel Police Chief Jeffrey Finch said the FBI’s annual crime reports are good “guidelines” but must be used with caution, because not every police department reports data to the FBI and that the federal agency doesn’t always audit the numbers. 

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy credited the low crime rate to criminal justice reforms over the last four years, including provision of housing opportunities for the homeless and ex-convicts. Other possible factors include higher incomes and employment rates, larger police forces and new enforcement tools, the NewsTimes.com said.
