Update 5:45 p.m.: The Danbury Branch was experiencing delays of up to 40 minutes because of an earlier downed tree, Metro-North reported on its website. Riders were advised to listen for announcements at stations.
Witnesses said the tree was cleared quickly from the tracks near Glover Avenue in Norwalk. Buses were ordered but were not needed, they said.
Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Service on the Metro-North Danbury branch has been stalled Tuesday afternoon for an unknown length of time by a downed tree that fell across train tracks in Norwalk.
One train was officially stopped, the 3:14 p.m. out of Danbury, which had been due in Stamford at 4:15 p.m., said Metro-North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders.
By 4:20 p.m., she said there was still no time estimate as to when the tracks would be up and running again. We dont have a crew out there or have any idea how big the tree is, said Anders.
