James H. Maloney, president and CEO of the Connecticut Institute For Communities Inc., announced that CIFC's purchase of the building had been finalized.
The funding came from part of a $2.5 million purchase and rehabilitation grant sponsored by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.
CIFC is using the remainder of grant to rehabilitate the building at 12 Boughton St. into good condition. It has hired Danbury-based Rizzo Corp. as the project's construction manager. CIFC anticipates that the project will take 12 months to complete.
The completed Danbury Community Center will sponsor a variety of recreational programs, such as:
- senior swims;
- swim-safety classes for Danbury schoolchildren;
- basketball and other sports opportunities for local teams;
- the organization of a Danbury Boys & Girls Club, in partnership with the national Boys & Girls Club organization.
