The Department of Medical Education and Research program begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. in the Robilotti Conference Center and the Creasy Auditorium. Parking is free in the Rizzo Garage located off Hospital Avenue.
Continental breakfast will be served in the auditorium lobby, and participants will have an opportunity to review research poster exhibits on display in the Robilotti Conference Center located adjacent to the Creasy Auditorium. Fifteen-minute oral presentations are scheduled from 9:30-11 a.m. No RSVP is required, and the community is welcome.
Research Day represents the hard work of faculty, residents and students who fulfill the requirement for Danbury Hospital teaching programs that encourage research and scientific writing undertaken on their own time. Since 1986, Danbury Hospital has conducted this yearly research event where Dr. Joseph L. Belsky, founder and an attending physician in the Department of Medicine, section of endocrinology and metabolism, continues to inspire and ensure that all research submitted for poster and oral presentation is of high quality relevant research.
Belsky will deliver opening remarks at 8 a.m. and introduce keynote speaker Patrick O’Connor, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., professor of medicine, Yale University School of Medicine. O’Connor has focused his scholarly work on the interface between primary care and substance abuse. This has included research examining the transfer of substance abuse treatment strategies from “specialty settings” to primary care settings.
His publications in this area include studies on the management of opioid withdrawal in primary care settings, opioid maintenance in primary care, and the use of naltrexsone for treating alcohol dependence in primary care patients. O’Connor has been active in medical education on substance abuse both nationally and internationally.
