The group announced that the bank is its inaugural recipient of the Hat City Award for Preservation Excellence.

The award will be presented at the Hat City Ball on Jan. 22 at The Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury. The venue is located at 1 Stacey Road.

The annual event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Thanks to the bank’s donation of time, talent and funding, two nationally registered historic structures at The Danbury Museum & Historical Society -- the Marian Anderson Studio and the John Rider House – have been stabilized, the society said.

The bank was also credited with the rehabilitation of its own notable Main Street branch, the sponsorship of “The Museum in the Streets,” and the showcasing of images from the museum’s archives at the bank’s local branch offices.

All these things, the society said, demonstrate the bank’s commitment to preservation.

“The initiative that Union Savings Bank has shown, in promoting the value and importance of Danbury’s rich history, has not gone unnoticed,” said city historian Brigid Guertin, the society’s executive director.

The Hat City Ball -- featuring dining, dancing, a silent auction and the award presentation -- is also a fundraiser for the museum and society.

Tickets are $135 per person and can be purchased at the museum during regular business hours, or by clicking here.

This event is open to all.
