Brewster, N.Y., resident Peggy Bruen, co-owner and operator of production company Hydra Films, would like to tell the story of Sybil Ludington – known to many as “the female Paul Revere” – in a modern dramatic, cinematic thriller that would serve as documentation of the young woman’s historic value to the Revolutionary War.
In 1777 at around age 17, Ludington rode her horse about 40 miles from her home in what is now Putnam County, N.Y. to rally her father’s infantry to defend Danbury, which was under British attack. Danbury, Ridgefield and Norwalk were all torched in the attack.
Bruen’s Kickstarter page says she will cast real actors to work in the film. “Please give us this opportunity to make a fantastic story, worthy of the New York State Education System, Women Film Festivals worldwide and PBS! It would be our honor to present this film globally.”
Her goal to be able to create the film is set at $50,000. As of Tuesday, about $1,000 has been raised. The fundraising campaign began in August and ends on Oct. 31.
