Danbury Student Wins Connecticut Kids Court Essay Competition

DANBURY, Conn. -- Alexandra Prendergast of Danbury High School took home first prize in the high school divison of the Connecticut Kids Court Essay Competition on June 9.

The Finals were held at the State Capitol Judiciary Room in Hartford,and was open to students from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

The winners received a plaque, a citation from the Governor and cash prizes. The judges for the competition include Connecticut Superior Judges, the Honorable Dawne Westbrook and the Honorable Juliett L. Crawford. Other judges include Michele C. Mount, Ana Mitchell, Kenneth Barone, Dr. William Howe and Sarah L.Jones.

Other winners included:

Middle School Division: First Place, Esther Nguyen, Windsor Locks Middle School; Second Place, Miya Spinella, Northeast Middle School, Emma Vrabel, Canton Intermediate School.

High School Divison: First Place, Alexandra Prendergast, Danbury High School; Second Place, Kaya Walker, Windsor Locks High School; and Third Place, Desmond Egyin, Windsor Locks High School.
