Danbury Resident Peter Buck Makes Forbes 400 List

DANBURY, Conn. ? Danbury resident Peter Buck, one of the founders of the Subway Restaurants chain, is also one of the 400 richest people in America, according to Forbes magazine.

One of 11 Connecticut residents among the 400, the 81-year-old Buck is ranked 179th with a net worth of $2.5 billion.

In 1965, Buck, a nuclear physicist, loaned family friend Fred DeLuca $1,000 to open the first Subway sandwich shop in Bridgeport. As of last year, the chain had more than 37,000 restaurants worldwide and generated $16.6 billion in revenues.

Of the 11 Connecticut residents, Buck is the sixth wealthiest. Eight are from Greenwich, one is from Darien and one from Branford.

Except for Buck, Connecticut's richest made most of their fortunes through hedge funds and other investment and financial services entities.
