The city will host events all day with the riders during their Summer of Unity tour.
The First Nation Dakota People, of Manitoba, are bringing their unity riders to the Hudson Valley this summer. This epic journey of the horseman will cover 4,000 miles and reach millions of people.
The First Nation Dakota People eventually will meet up with the Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign and paddle along several spots on their journey down the Hudson River.
The events in Danbury will include:
- 9 to 11 a.m.: Arrival ceremony with the Dakota Unity Riders, including rides on trails throughout Tarrywile Park, 70 Southern Blvd.
- 12:30 p.m.: A ceremony to honor Alfred Afraid of Hawk, who died June 28, 1900, in Danbury, as well as the volunteers who worked to return his remains to his family and home in South Dakota.
- 1:15 to 3:30 p.m.: A meet and greet with the riders.
- 5:15 p.m.: Riders arrive at Danbury Museum & Historical Society, 43 Main St.
- 5:30 p.m. : Community picnic with the riders; bring along your own picnic dinner.
- 7:30 p.m.: Riders leave Danbury.
