The DPSO rehearses at the Danbury Music Centre every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. The first rehearsal is Thursday, Sept. 10. Click here to register online or call the office at 203-748-1716 for a registration form.
The DPSO provides a challenging, educational ensemble to string players with all skill levels. Students study string repertoire appropriate to their level of playing. Students develop playing technique, listening skills, orchestral technique, and ensemble experience.
The DPSO is led by Glen Lebetkin and has been since 1999. The program, under his leadership, continues to grow in popularity and size. Lebetkin retired as music teacher in Ridgebury Elementary School, where he taught from 1973 to 2008. He directed strings, band, chorus, general music, as well as musicals.
Along with his wife Harriet, he directs Danbury Talent Education, a Suzuki School where violin and piano are taught.
Lebetkin, a violinist, graduated cum laude from Ithaca College with a major in music education. He received his Master of Science degree from Western Connecticut State University, also with a major in music education. In addition to his many school responsibilities, Lebetkin has also been a guest conductor for the Greenwich All-City Elementary Orchestra and has adjudicated for the Connecticut All-State violin auditions.
If students enroll in September, tuition is $225; students enrolling in January will be charged $150 tuition. Financial aid is available upon request. Contact the office for more details at 203-748-1716 or email marian@danburymusiccentre.org.
