One place where most people are happy to hear Christmas music is on the soundtracks of their favorite holiday movies. Which Christmas songs have appeared most often on movie soundtracks down through the years?
"Jingle Bells" (originally from 1857) has appeared in 373 movies, according to website FiveThirtyEight.com, which analyzed IMDB data. "Auld Lang Syne" is listed in 295 movie soundtracks, placing it second, while "Silent Night" places third with 254.
"Jingle Bells" and "Silent Night" are in the public domain, making both songs easy covers for musicians, FiveThirtyEight.com says.
It analyzed data from Spotify and found that "Silent Night" is the most covered Christmas song, with 26,496 tracks. "Jingle Bells" is the third most covered holiday tune with 19,080, according to the website. No. 2, "White Christmas," is popular but not in the public domain.
