Girl Scouts Take Over Danbury Mall, Learn Secrets Of Selling Cookies

DANBURY, Conn. — Girl Scout troops from across Fairfield County flocked to the Danbury Fair Mall on Saturday afternoon for a rally on the the finer points of selling — you guessed it — Girl Scout Cookies.

"We've done the rallies here for several years," Debbie Demetrius, senior director of customer volunteer relations for Girls Scouts of Connecticut, told the Daily Voice. "We've found that there's five skills the girls learn. We come here to give girls activities, to participate — to learn how to be safe selling cookies, to give them pointers on how to be saleswomen."

The five skills Demetrius mentioned are are goal setting, money management, business ethics, people skills and decision making.

"They come together as troops, as individuals, and it's a great way to bring families together," Demetrius said.

"They teach them how they can be successful in the cookie selling season, and they're having a lot of fun," said Daniela Nero, the leader of a Girl Scout Daisy Troop from Danbury. "I think it's great. They get to do some crafts, hang out with their friends, and learn how to be good salesgirls for the cookies. The girls love it."

Girl Scouts are now taking orders for cookies. Sales will begin across Fairfield County on Feb. 27 at cookie booths and with delivery of preorders.

Cookie flavors include Rah-Rah Raisins, Samoas, Trefoils, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos, Savannah Smiles. They cost $4 per box. Toffee-tastic, a gluten-free option, is $5 per box.
