The donation is from The Church of the Epiphany-Upper Room Thrift Shop in Southbury.
Cuddle Cots allow parents to spend more time in the hospital to grieve the loss of their newborn child, according to Danbury Hospital. Funds raised by The Upper Room Thrift Shop benefit area outreach programs.
“I learned about the Cuddle Cot then contacted Danbury Hospital to find out if they had one,” said Dorrie Johnson, an Upper Thrift Shop volunteer. “At the time, they didn’t, and we wanted them to have one because it’s a compassionate piece of equipment that will help provide comfort to families experiencing the loss of an infant.”
A Cuddle Cot is a medical cooling system that delays changes to a stillborn infant.
Present for the Cuddle Cot donation at the Danbury Hospital Family Birth Center last week were Janet Byrnes, an Upper Room Thrift Shop volunteer; Michele Rybos, a registered nurse at the Danbury Hospital Family Birth Center; and Dorrie Johnson.
