DANBURY, Conn. – "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" returns to the Palace Danbury on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a musical parody of B-movies, science fiction and horror films. Released in 1975, the film was directed by Jim Sharman and stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O’Brien and Patricia Quinn. "Rocky Horror" holds the record for the longest-running release in film history – 39 years and counting. Interestingly, the film bombed during its first run in 1975. However, when it was rereleased as a midnight movie, the film really took off. In fact, it was a midnight mainstay at The Palace Danbury theater during the 1980s.

One of the reasons for its long life is audience participation – and that’s exactly what’s expected at the Oct. 25 screening. Audience members are encouraged to dress as their favorite character, throw props at various times during the film, and be ready to yell back lines of dialogue as part of the audience participation.

Moviegoers are asked to respect the venue and follow some simple rules: no rice, hot dogs or open flames will be permitted, and all fans 18 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. To make participation easier, prop packs, which include all the permitted props, can be pre-ordered when purchasing tickets online.

Tickets for "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" are general admission and cost $15; admission with a prop pack costs $20. Tickets can be ordered online at or purchased at the door the night of the show.

The Palace Danbury is at 165 Main St.

Free parking is available for theater patrons behind the building.
