The gala is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27 at The Amber Room Colonnade and is to feature live music from Eight to the Bar and the USO Show Troupe, according to organizers.
The event is to include an open beer and wine bar, a surf & turf or vegetarian dinner, dancing and a silent auction.
Among those to be honored at the Hat City Ball are Danbury Mayor Mark D. Boughton, who is to receive The Hat City Award for Preservation Excellence, according to organizers, who said that Boughton’s “stalwart and ongoing partnership with the museum and commitment to the preservation of the history and heritage of our community” were the primary drivers behind his earning the recognition.
“I am honored to be chosen as the recipient of The Hat City Award for Preservation Excellence,” Boughton said in a statement. “Twenty-first century Danbury is shaped by our past and I feel strongly that as a community we must continue to recognize and honor the important history that the Danbury Museum & Historical Society collects and preserves.”
Boughton urged those interested in the city and its history to consider joining the preservation efforts supported by the museum.
Joretta Kilcourse, president of The Friends of The Danbury Museum & Historical Society, said the group was excited to celebrate the Danbury Museum’s 75-year past.
“We look forward to bringing the Danbury community together once again,” she said. “The Hat City Ball is an essential fundraiser for the museum and supports (its) educational programs, history-related events, community outreach and preservation efforts.”
The museum is currently seeking sponsors and advertisers for the event, organizers said. Major sponsorship at the “Campaign Hat Honor Table” level includes an opportunity to provide tickets to Danbury veterans, according to organizers, who said that donations to this year’s silent auction from area businesses are also welcomed.
Tickets can also be purchased at the museum, 43 Main St., during regular business hours.
