With Danbury and Newtown so close, show runner Charles Rosenay said this summer’s show was always intended to be a charity event for the neighboring town that after the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

But after it was announced that charities in Newtown were no longer accepting donations, Rosenay said they wanted to find something else.

“We always said from the beginning that we were going to do it as a charity,” Rosenay said. And after seeing the plans for the park, he said they were happy to see the money go toward that.

Other than some sound production costs, 100 percent of the net proceeds are going to help the park finish its fundraising.

“The bands aren’t taking any money,” Rosenay said. They’re all donating their time and Ives Concert Park is donating the space for the all-day festival.

The festival is meant to be a celebration of The Beatles and their music, with 10 bands performing some of the classic Beatles songs.

“It’s a very family-friendly event, so everyone who comes through the door hopefully won’t just enjoy the music, food and other vendors,” Rosenay said.

The event will last from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, and tickets are $20 per person. For more information visit the festival website here.
