Esty Gets Up-Close Look At Superbug Technology At Danbury's Spectra 254

DANBURY, Conn. — U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty toured Spectra 254 in Danbury last week, watching a presentation and a getting a first-hand look at the company's new ultraviolet technology decontamination systems.

The technology is aimed primarily at battling STAPH infections in hospitals but has many other uses.

Spectra 254 specializes in manufacturing UV-C medical technology. The company, which as launched in 2013, has been adding jobs and manufacturing high-efficiency, high-output UV-C light capable of eradicating harmful bacteria and viruses such as Ebola, MRSA, staph, HIV, and so-called superbugs.

The company has experienced significant growth and their technology is being deployed by hospitals fighting Hospital-Acquired Infections.

A member of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Esty met with Spectra 254 leaders to learn how federal policy impacts their company and to learn about some of the company’s successes.

Spectra254 is located at 3 Corporate Drive in Danbury, near the Brookfield border.
