DANBURY, Conn. -- Fans of Chick-fil-A no longer have to drive to New Jersey to get their favorite meal: Connecticut’s first stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurant, and the first in the Danbury area, is throwing open its doors on Thursday, Oct. 9.

The restaurant, at 156 Federal Road at the former site of a Burger King, has created 80 new jobs in the area.

The first 100 customers, who began waiting in line Wednesday at the Brookfield location, will get free Chick-fil-A meals for a year.

Chick-fil-A operator Devon Scanlon is collecting new children’s books at her restaurant during the grand opening from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The new books will be placed in a Book House to serve as a free library exchange – allowing anyone to take a book after replacing it with one of their own. The Book House was created from old and thrown out wood.

The new Brookfield stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurant is the first of four Connecticut locations slated to open within the next six months. A second stand-alone restaurant will open in Wallingford on Nov. 6 followed by a restaurant inside the Danbury Fair Mall in mid-November, while a stand-alone restaurant is slated for Enfield in early 2015.

The new locations are part of a New England expansion which will bring the first stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurants to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut this year.

The new location can seat 109 in the dining room with additional outside patio seating and includes a drive-through, play area and free wi-fi.

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has more than 1,858 restaurants in 41 states and Washington, D.C.
