About 105 to 135 Applebee's restaurants will close, up from the 40 to 60 that were slated for closure in the first quarter, DineEquity said late Thursday afternoon. And an estimated 20 to 25 IHOPs will be shuttered as well, an increase from about 18.
Specific restaurant closures and locations have not yet been announced.
With more than 2,000 restaurants in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and 15 other countries around the world, Applebee's is one of the world's largest casual dining restaurant brands.
IHOP, the beloved pancake chain, has over 1,700 restaurants in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and around the world.
Locally, Applebee's can be found in Danbury and Orange, as well as in Brewster, Mohegan Lake, Hawthorne and White Plains, N.Y.
IHOP restaurants are located in Stamford and Orange as well as in Mohegan Lake, N.Y.
The move comes as more people are opting for quicker dining options rather than sit-down restaurants.
