By December, 379 apartment units will begin to open at the development, known as 1 Kennedy Flats.
The development is the largest in downtown Danbury in decades and, when complete, will offer housing within walking distance of such amenities as restaurants, shops, the Metro-North train station, the Pulse Point bus transfer station, City Hall and Western Connecticut State University.
“This will be very good for demographics and great support for housing,” said Mayor Mark Boughton, who said he is excited for the project to be completed. Boughton said the luxury housing will spur more development in downtown Danbury, making it an even better place to live.
The modern luxury apartment development is being completed by Greystar, a company “redefining excellence in apartment building,” according to its website. The website for 1 Kennedy Flats advertises the housing with the slogan, "Hang Your Hat Here," playing on Danbury's history as the Hat City.
This complex will offer studios as well as one- and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom townhomes. The project's amenities will include a swimming pool, fitness center, covered parking and garages, and washers/dryers, and it’s even pet friendly. The cost of rentals will range from $1,500 to $3,000.
Construction began earlier this spring on the vacant land known as the former Amphenol site. It is on Kennedy Avenue, between Rose and Main streets. The urban Kennedy Park, home to the CityCenter Farmers Market, is just across the street.
Passersby along Main Street can already see several foundations that have been poured, as well as wooden framing that has been constructed throughout the property.
