The future is grim for Stop & Shop's underperforming stores in the Northeast. Scammers Posing As Well-Known Businesses, Agencies: Here's What To Know, Feds Say
Federal authorities are sounding the alarm over scams that impersonate well-known businesses and government agencies. In 2023, data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alone show more than 330,000 reports of business impersonation scams and nearly 160,000 reports of government impersonation scams. That amounts to nearly half the frauds reported directly to the agency, the FTC said. A beloved firefighter, baseball coach, and Navy veteran from Northern Westchester is being remembered for his longstanding dedication to helping his community. Banksville resident Preston Pratley died on Monday, May 27 at the age of 79, according to his obituary. Born in 1944, Pratley was born in Greenwich and later moved to Banksville after marrying his wife, Geraldine Kerslake, in May 1968. Man Charged In Westport Smash-Grab Jewelry Store Robbery
A Fairfield County man has been charged in connection with a smash-and-grab robbery in which the thieves made off with an unknown quantity of jewels. On Wednesday, May 29, Westport Police arrested 30-year-old Bridgeport resident Javon Thorbourne in connection with the case on Thursday, May 9, at the Lux, Bond, and Green at 136 Main St. According to Lt. Norwalk Drug Dealer Busted During Raid Of Apartment, Cops Say
An alleged Fairfield County drug dealer was busted with a substantial amount of fentanyl and other drugs during a warrant search of his apartment. Keith Johnson, age 33, of Norwalk, was arrested on Tuesday, May 28, at the Waypointe Apartment Complex in Norwalk. According to Lt. Tomasz Podgorski of the Norwalk Police, members of the department's Special Services Division, assisted by members of the Patrol Division, executed the search warrants following a surveillance of the apartment complex. Police in New York say a Connecticut man intentionally parked his Chevy Equinox on train tracks in the path of a CSX train and then ran away only to be caught. The Hudson Valley incident occurred in Ulster County around 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, south of the Esopus Avenue railroad crossing in the town of Espous. According to Capt. Girl, 9, Rescued From Swimming Pool At Danbury Home
A 9-year-old girl was rescued from a Fairfield County swimming pool by a bystander who administered first aid. The incident occurred in Danbury around 3 p.m., Sunday, May 25, at a home on Westwood Terrace. According to Erin Henry, spokesperson for the Danbury Fire Department, the girl, who was unconscious, was recovered from the backyard swimming pool by a bystander. A man has been charged with sexual assault after a female co-worker accused him of multiple incidents.
