Flood Warning Issued For Still River In Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning until 7 p.m. tonight for the Still River area in Brookfield due to high winds and expected rains Thursday afternoon.

At 5 a.m. Thursday, the river was at 12.1 feet; flood stage is 12 feet. Currently, minor flooding is occurring and is expected to continue to rise to near 12.5 feet this afternoon.

The river is expected to fall back below flood stage sometime this afternoon after 4 p.m.

During the flooding:

Avoid walking or driving through flood waters.
Just six inches of moving water can knock you down and two feet of water can sweep your vehicle away.
If there’s a chance of flash flooding, move immediately to higher ground.
Flash floods are the number one cause of weather-related deaths in the US.
Walk only where floodwaters aren’t moving.
Use a stick to check the depth of the water and firmness of the ground in front of you.
If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground.
Just one foot of water can stall your engine and make the car float away.
