Rare Possible Bobcat Sighting Reported On Long Island
Police are searching for what could be a bobcat after receiving a report of a wild cat on Long Island. The sighting took place in Suffolk County in the area of Boulevard Avenue in West Islip around 10:40 a.m., Tuesday, July 26. Police responded to the area and the animal was not located, said the Suffolk County Police. John Di Leonardo, an anthrozoologist and president of Humane Long Island said the animal is most likely a lynx hybrid that was someone's pet and was abandoned. An off-duty Fairfield County police officer who killed a beloved local bear will not be charged. Bobbi the black bear was killed on Thursday, May 12 in Newtown by Ridgefield police officer Lawrence Clarke. Last week, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection found that based on an investigation there is "insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against the homeowner." Three men were issued more than $4,200 in fines after Connecticut officials reported that they far exceeded the daily limit for carp fishing.Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police reported on Monday, May 16, that officers in Middlesex County responded over the weekend to the CT River in Cromwell after receiving a report of three people fishing over the daily limit for carp. State officials are investigating after the fatal shooting of Bobbi the Bear by an off-duty police officer in Northern Fairfield County. A hawk that was rescued by a fast-acting Metro-North engineer who came to its aid after it was caught on the tracks in Connecticut was released back into the wild in Fairfield County. One Bald Eagle Dies, One Fighting For Life After Separate Incidents
One bald eagle died and a second is fighting for life after separate incidents in Connecticut, according to the Audubon Society. One eagle, initially rescued by state police, was found on the side of Route 8, in the area of exit 25, in the Beacon Falls/Naugatuck region, said the Audubon Sharon on Facebook. The person who found the eagle said he saw it fall to the ground. But the Society says on Facebook that the eagle was hit by a vehicle suffering a fractured wing and soft tissue damage.
