It was a slow go for commuters in parts of the area during the Thursday morning commute as a result of four separate incidents. A crash took out the left lane on southbound I-684 at Route 35 (Exit 6) in Katonah with stopped traffic at the scene and stop-and-go delays of one hour to Hardscrabble Road (Exit 8) until the lane reopened at around 8:30 a.m. On the southbound Taconic Parkway, a crash took out the right lane at Peekskill Hollow Road, with stop-and-go delays to Pudding Street until the lane reopened around 9 a.m. A stretch of Route 123 (Smith…

New Black Bear Sighting: This One Is A Real Night Owl There have been no shortage of black bear sightings throughout the area of late. Nearly all, though, have come during the day. But this weekend, we have received word of a bear who's a real night owl - so to speak. A family in Dutchess County tells us the bear has made back-to-back evening visits the last two days. The first came Thursday, Oct. 4 at about 7:30 p.m. at the residence on Gold Road in Stormville. (See photos above.) A large black bear interrupted them as they were fertilizing their lawn in Putnam County. After taking cover inside their home on North Knapp Court, they watched and took the above videos and photos of the unexpected visitor. Before retreating back into the woods, the bear knocked over a wheelbarrow and helped itself to a 40-pound bag of fertilizer, which it carried in its mouth as it made its exit.
