Gas Main Replacement To Start In Fairfield's Beach Neighborhoods Some of Fairfield County’s beach neighborhoods are getting a gas main replacement for the first time in more than seven decades. The Southern Connecticut Gas Company has issued an alert in Fairfield of its upcoming plans to upgrade the existing natural gas mains in the beach neighborhood. The project began on Monday, June 11 and it should be completed next spring. Officials noted that the existing mains in the area are typically more than 70 years old, are low pressure, and are cast iron pipes, which can be brittle.
