Congressman Asks Biden For Help In Case Of NY Businessman Being Held In China
New York Congressman Tom Suozzi is urging President Biden to take action in the case of a Long Island businessman who the United Nations says is being wrongfully detained in China. Rep. Suozzi, a Democrat whose district includes most of the North Shore of Long Island, sent a letter to Biden on Wednesday, July 20, asking him to personally intervene on behalf of Kai Li. Chick-fil-A has shared its plans to open new locations in the region. Representatives from the company said the fast-food chain will open the new locations on Long Island in both Nassau, in Rosedale, and Suffolk, in Huntington in 2022. An assistant scoutmaster has been accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy multiple times in incidents that occurred both on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley, police say. According to Nassau County Police Department detectives, Jonathan Spohrer, 26, of North Bellmore, while acting in his capacity as an assistant scoutmaster for the Boys Scouts of America, sexually abused the boy on multiple occasions from January 2018 through Nov. 18, 2018. Sears Announces 40 New Store Closures, Including One In CT
Less than a month after it filed for bankruptcy and announced the closures of 142 Sears and Kmart stores, Sears Holdings is saying it's planning to close another 40 stores in February. First Woman Named Metro-North President
Catherine Rinaldi has been named the first female president of Metro-North Railroad. Rinaldi, has served as acting president of Metro-North since July 2017, and previously was Metro-North’s executive vice president, beginning in 2015. On Wednesday, Feb. 21 she was officially named president. She replaces Joe Giulietti who resigned last July after three years leading the railroad.
