Cotton Candy Makers Ignite Sugar, Sparking Large Recall
Thousands of cotton candy makers are being recalled after a dozen reports of sparking and fire. Wuensche USA issued the recall for about 21,690 Ambiano Cotton Candy Makers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, Sept. 18. The heating element can cause sugar to ignite if the machine is used without the included sugar receptacle, posing a fire hazard. Wuensche has received 12 reports of sparking or fire. CT Woman Killed After Car Crashes Into Utility Pole, Sparking Electrical Fire
A 53-year-old Connecticut woman was killed Wednesday evening, June 25, in a fatal Route 254 wreck. Terri Mae Cullen, of Waterbury, was driving north on the highway in Litchfield at Windsong Drive just after 4 p.m. when the Dodge Dart she was driving veered off the road and struck a utility pole, Connecticut State Police said. The crash tore down power lines and sparked a fire, Northfield firefighters said. Eversource had to turn off the electricity before crews could reach her. Firefighters were called to Trumbull High School twice in less than six hours after two unrelated incidents sent emergency crews scrambling Thursday night and early Friday morning. The first call came at 8:24 p.m., Thursday, May 15, when Trumbull firefighters responded to a 100-gallon glycol spill from a broken pipe that flooded the school, authorities said. Outdoor Electrical Fire Damages Fairfield County Home
A Fairfield County home was damaged during an outdoor electrical fire. The Westport Fire Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of a house fire on Compo Road South at 12:45 pm Thursday, Aug. 5, said Fire Chief Robert Yost. The residents of the home, including two children, were able to evacuate before the fire department responded. Fire At Substation Leads To Thousands Of Power Outages In Fairfield County
Around 13,000 lost power after a fire broke out at a substation in Norwalk. The electrical fire at the New Canaan Avenue power substation in Norwalk began just after 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24. Upon firefighters' arrival, heavy flames were visible from an elevated switch gear cabinet that controls a 13,800-volt transmission line, the Norwalk Fire Department said. A fire that began in a bedroom devastated a waterside home in Stamford, officials said. Stamford Fire Department say they responded at 5:41 p.m. Thursday, May 23 to a report of a house fire at 513 Fairfield Avenue. Lack Of Cell Service Forces New Canaan Woman To Leave Home To Seek Help After Electrical Fire
A woman had to leave her home in order to find help after a short circuit sparked an electrical fire and a power outage because she was unable to get cell phone service in northeast New Canaan. The incident took place on Saturday when New Canaan firefighters were on the scene of a tree and wires down on Laurel Road when the resident drove up and informed them that there was a fire in her home on Bob Hill Lane, said New Canaan Fire Marshal Fred Baker.
