'Our Students Deserve Better': CT Education Group Calls Out McMahon Nomination
The Connecticut Education Association says President-elect Donald Trump's choice to run the Department of Education is a threat to vulnerable students and local school districts. Trump announced Tuesday, Nov. 19, that Connecticut's Linda McMahon, co-founder and former CEO of WWE, chairwoman of a Trump super PAC and think tank, and co-chair of his transition team, would head the department in his new administration. She also served as his administrator of the Small Business Administrator from 2017 through 2019 during his first term. "The nomination of billionaire Linda McMah…

19: Students, Parents Hold Anti-Mask Rallies At State Capitol
Students, parents, and anti-mask advocates gathered at the Connecticut state Capitol as part of a pair of rallies held ahead of the start of the 2022 legislative session. The rally comes at the outset of the legislative session, and days after Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont…

19: CT Teachers Want Continued Distance Learning Over Going Back To Normal
Few Connecticut teachers would be comfortable with returning to normal school hours. Most Connecticut educators are in favor of distance learning in the fall. According to a statewide survey of the Connecticut Education Association, 16 percent of educators would prefer returning to full-time, in-school learning when students go back to school, in some form, in September. Meanwhile, 39 percent of teachers support a hybrid approach to teaching and 46 percent favor continued distance learning. Nearly all teachers want schools to require students to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prev…

19: Lamont Expected To Announce Decision On Schools Soon
Connecticut parents and students will learn soon when or if schools will reopen during the continuing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. During a special appearance "Face the State," on Eyewitness News Channel 3, Gov. Ned Lamont said the announcement would be made this week. “My instinct is it’s probably going to be a long haul to get it opened before June, but the doors ajar, so we’re probably going to let Miguel Cardona, (state) our commissioner, make the announcement next week,” Lamont said during the interview. Surrounding states in the tri-state area including New York and New Jer…
