Residents On High Alert After Reports Of Bears Killing Chickens In Fairfield County Town Animal Control officers in Connecticut are warning residents to be on alert after bears reportedly got into an area chicken coop, killing at least two of them. In Fairfield County, the New Canaan Police Department issued a warning after bears killed multiple chickens as they prepare to fatten themselves up before hibernating for the winter. Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm said the coop was broken into sometime overnight between Saturday, Nov. 6 and Sunday, Nov. 7, and two chickens were killed, one of which was partially consumed.
