Two men were sentenced to years in prison for their roles in a plan to murder an individual and set fire to a Fairfield County business.
Luis Mercado, age 55, of Bridgeport, and 35-year-old Luis Mejias, of Waterbury, were sentenced on Monday, June 27, to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States attorney for the District of Connecticut.
They both pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon on Friday, March 25, the US Attorney's Office said.

A 57-year-old man is facing arson and other charges in Connecticut after allegedly lighting a vehicle on fire, officials announced.
First responders in New Haven responded to an apartment complex in Milford over the weekend, where there was a report of a suspicious car fire that broke out near a High Street apartment complex.

A Connecticut man and a teen have been arrested for the alleged kidnapping, carjacking, and brutal beating of a woman from a supermarket parking lot last year.
On Tuesday, March 1, state police arrested Kenneth Gordon, age 20, of Hartford, and a 16-year-old boy following a five-month investigation into the events which took place at the Big Y parking lot in Marlborough on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2021.

Second Suspect Nabbed For Fatal Shooting Outside Club In Fairfield County
A second man has been apprehended for his alleged role in the shooting death of another man at a nightclub in Fairfield County.
Kadeem Frazer, age 28, of Bridgeport, was arrested for his role in the Saturday, Oct. 2, murder of Jonathan DaSilva at the VIP Lounge on Pembroke Street.
Frazer was driving the vehicle, as Robert Sorrells, who was arrested on October 21, fired the shots that killed the victim from the passenger’s seat of Frazer’s car, according to Scott Appleby, director of Emergency Management for the City of Bridgeport.

Fairfield County Man Charged With Attack On Nypd Officer, Tossing Molotov Cocktail, Police Say
A Fairfield County man is being charged in federal court with an attack on an NYPD officer over the weekend and then tossing a Molotov cocktail.
Lionel Virgile, age 44, of Bridgeport, will face a federal just on a charge of arson on Monday, April 19, for the attack which took place in Brooklyn on Saturday, April 17, said the NYPD.
According to police, around 8 a.m., Saturday, 67 Precinct officers stopped Virgile in a gray 2000 Lincoln Town car for a traffic infraction.

Accused CT Serial Arsonist Arrested By Police
Plainfield Police have arrested an alleged serial arsonist.
Roland Bourque III, 29, of Moosup, Connecticut, was arrested Thursday, July 23, on two counts of arson, WTNH reported.
The charges stem from two fires: June 22, 2016, on South Main Street; and Aug. 17, 2017, on Roy Street.
Bourque alleged confessed to setting the fires when he was arrested after being caught trying to set fire to an abandoned resident on May 2, WTHN reported.
