New Fairfield Citizens Reject Blight, Stormwater Ordinances

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Two proposals were turned down and one met with the agreement of New Fairfield residents at a recent town meeting, says WLAD-AM.

Citizens did not approve a blight ordinance, rejecting it by 3-1, and a stormwater runoff ordinance was also rejected, according to WLAD-AM.

Meanwhile, revisions to the Fairfield Code of Ethics was agreed upon per a voice vote, said the report.

The vote count on the blight ordinance was 98 against, 35 for it, with four abstentions, said WLAD-AM.

The stormwater runoff ordinance was opposed by 52 residents, while 17 voted for it, and two did not vote, according to the report.

The Town's Ethics Code was made prior to the state one, and local residents voted for "minor changes" to bring it in line with the state statute, WLAD-AM said.

The blight ordinance stems from "a number of complaints" the office of First Selectman Susan Chapman has gotten, she told WLAD-AM. At this time, the town does not have the authority to force homeowners to clean up their properties.

The stormwater proposal ordinance is related to past concerns of icing and damage to roads, the report said.
