For Brookfield, Local Ballot Goes Beyond Just Clinton Vs. Trump

BROOKFIELD, Conn. — Much of the political spotlight this year is focused on the heated race for the presidency between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump.

Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Esty will face challenger Clay Cope for the 5th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

But voters in Brookfield are also set to cast ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in a number of races that are much closer to home. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters can cast ballots in races for the U.S. Senate and House:

  • U.S. Senate: Democrat incumbent Richard Blumenthal of Greenwich vs. Republican challenger Dan Carter of Bethel vs. Richard Lion of the Libertarian Party vs. Jeffery Russell of the Green Party
  • 5th District U.S. House: Republican challenger Clay Cope vs. Democrat incumbent Elizabeth Esty

There are also races for the State Senate and State House:

  • State Senate: David A. Lawson, Democrat vs. Craig A. Miner, Republican incumbent
  • State House District 107: Stephen G. Harding, Republican incumbent running unopposed

In a local race for registrar of voters, voters can choose between Dorothy A. Dori, a Democrat, and Ryan Murphy, a Republican.

And for president and vice president, four teams are on the ballot:

  • Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine;
  • Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence
  • Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson and Bill Weld
  • Green Party's Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka
  • Or you can do a write-in candidate.
