The state claimed Brookfield owed more than $7 million for the renovation, which was completed in 2008, after the Board of Education couldn't find requested bids and receipts for subcontractors who performed the work, said WLAD.com.
The general contractor who oversaw the construction found most of the records, but as of earlier this year the town still had $950,000 in unaccounted for expenses, added WLAD.com. That debt has been absolved following the passage of legislation introduced by Chapin.
