Early Thursday, a patrol trooper and his K9 partner tracked down the suspect, Steven Flood, 32, while he was camping in the woods in Union, on the Connecticut/Massachusetts border in the northeastern part of the state, police said.
Flood, who was cooperative with police, was charged with third-degree larceny, state police said. He has the same address as the unidentified deceased 55-year-old woman, who was found dead Tuesday in the home at 26 Candlewood Drive in a neighborhood along Candlewood Lake.
Police have characterized the woman's death “suspicious” but have not called it a homicide or given details on the cause or manner of her death.
Troopers responded to the home for a well-being check Tuesday morning and forced their way inside. The 55-year-old woman was found dead, and troopers described her death as "suspicious." They have not released her name.
Flood, who was transported back to Troop L in Litchfield, will appear Friday in Danbury Superior Court on the charge of third-degree larceny, which is linked to the theft of a car, police said. He was held on $100,000 bond.
State Police established that Flood was a person of interest “during the processing of the residence and the course of this investigation.” They had checked several addresses before tracking him down while camping.
