On Sunday, March 7, Windsor Locks Police responded to the Holiday Inn Express, located at 600 Spring St, to investigate a complaint regarding an unoccupied vehicle parked in the parking lot which appeared to have been struck by gunfire.
Officers located an SUV in the parking lot which appeared to have two bullet holes. Officers also located 2 spent shell casings in the parking lot near the damaged vehicle, said Lieutenant Paul Cherniack.
Through a combination of interviews and video surveillance, officers were able to determine that the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, Cherniack said.
Officers located a vehicle on Elm Street which had been involved in the incident.
Officers also learned of a second location in Windsor Locks where the same suspect had discharged a firearm following a disturbance, police said.
There was an allegation that the homeowner at this location had been shot in the hand, but officers determined his injury was a result of a struggle over the firearm.
It was during this time that the suspect was identified as Kyle Cianfarani, 20, of Windsor Locks, Cherniack said.
Police were also looking for a 2003 Dodge Dakota which he had last been seen operating.
A short time later police located a blue Dodge Dakota in the driveway of 60 Andover St. Police also seized a 9mm bullet found in the driveway by this vehicle.
On Monday, March 8, Windsor Locks detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Cianfarani. Officers located Cianfarani at his home, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Cianfarani was charged with:
- Weapons in a motor vehicle
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm
- Criminal mischief
- Reckless endangerment
- Breach of peace
Kyle was held on a $50,000 court set bond.
