Former Brookfield School Finance Chief Faces New Charges

BROOKFIELD, Conn. - In late September, former Brookfield schools finance chief Art Colley faced new larceny, conspiracy and forgery charges after Brookfield police finished their investigation.

According to the News Times, Colley, 58, turned himself i nto police and was released on a $30,000 bond Thursday, Sept. 24. Colley had been charged earlier this year with second-degree larceny and third-degree forgery. He was accused of receiving reimbursement for iPads that had never been purchased.

Police allege that Colley took more than $53,000 from school funds, the News Times reports.

Each of the larceny charges carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and each forgery charge carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison.

Elizabeth Kerekes, Colley‘s former assistant, was also charged that same week with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny, the News Times reports.

The arrests ended a months=long police investigation into both Colley and Kerekes, who worked together in the school business office. The investigation began after a forensic audit found $124,000 in questionable spending.
