“Through his leadership and tireless efforts, Larry has achieved significant accomplishments in the protection and management of Candlewood Lake,” said Phyllis Schaer, chairman of the CLA. “Since 2003, Larry has led our organization, creating groundbreaking programs with a focus on responsible stewardship of Candlewood Lake that will benefit our beautiful lake for years to come.”
Marsicano will be working with Aquatic Ecosystem Research.
The Candlewood Lake Authority works to foster the preservation and enhancement of recreational, economic, scenic, public safety and environmental values of the lake for Danbury, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford and Sherman.
Marsicano joined the CLA in 1998 and has been instrumental in creating many of its lake management programs, including: the state’s first demonstration buffer garden, the annual Candlewood Lake cleanup and Project CLEAR.
He has conducted lake research and water quality monitoring that has been published in peer‐reviewed professional journals, led the lake community’s efforts in the FERC relicensing process, initiated the state’s largest triploid grass carp program and developed important relationships with scientific, academic, government and corporate entities.
A committee has been convened to begin the search for the next executive director.
Throughout the transition, the CLA chairman, board members and staff will continue to oversee daily operations of the authority, including the Marine Patrol, water quality testing, public education and outreach, and aquatic invasive monitoring and control.
