Nobody was injured in the incident, state police said on Twitter. State police troopers were assisting the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection at the scene after the plane's rough landing.
The plane landed on the water near the Sherman/New Fairfield border before 4 p.m. and began taking on water, NBC Connecticut said.
A good Samaritan boater got the plane's occupants off the plane safely, NBC said.
DEEP crews will assist with any environmental problems, including the possibility of fuel getting into the water.
