Need to pick up libations for the Christmas holidays? The Connecticut Liquor Control Division reminds shoppers that package stores are closed on Christmas Day, and normal Sunday hours apply on Christmas Eve.

It’s also important for permittees at bars and restaurants to remember that there are laws that apply to drink specials that must be followed.

"We would like to remind our restaurants and bars that the offering and serving of “Bottomless Mimosas” in Connecticut runs afoul of liquor regulations," the Liquor Control Division said in a statement.

State regulations say no permittee, backer, or employee at a bar or restaurant may:

  • sell, offer, or deliver more than one drink to any one person for consumption at any one time. A second serving is allowed only after the first serving has been substantially disposed of or consumed;
  • sell, offer or deliver drinks by the pitcher except to two or more persons;
  • sell, offer or deliver to any person an unlimited number of drinks during any set period of time for a fixed price; or
  • encourage or permit any game or contest that involves drinking or the awarding of drinks as prizes.

While patrons may be engaged in this practice, "it is nonetheless not allowed," the state said.

Package stores must remain closed on Christmas Day and grocery stores may not sell beer.

Christmas Eve is on Sunday and Sunday hours for package stores are in effect.

Connecticut liquor stores and markets can sell alcohol until 10 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and until 6 p.m. on Sundays.
