The sun broke out in time for the ceremony, which was about "remembering those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom," First Selectman Susan Chapman and Selectman Kim Hanson said in a Facebook post.
Among the veterans remembered was New Fairfield native Todd "TJ" Lobraico, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in September 2013 as a member of the New York Air National Guard. He was 22.
Lobraico, who was to deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq, rose to the position of staff sergeant.
When he discovered a pack of insurgents while on patrol in Afghanistan, he didn’t hesitate to put himself in harm’s way for the sake of his comrades and was killed in the ensuing firefight.
Lobraico was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star with Valor.
