Though primarily for use by those 60 and older, any New Fairfield resident may drop in to borrow a computer or tablet, or bring their own device and utilize the space.
"We built the room so come and enjoy. Bring your things. It's quiet, peaceful and comfortable," said Janet Capozzola, the center's program coordinator."
"We have four computers and four Surface Pro tablets that people can check out for up to an hour (on site)."
"You would come in and sign in at the center. The (devices) when available can really be borrowed by anyone," Capozzola continued.
The cafe's opening coincides with a slate of free computer classes at the center that began this week.
Coming up is instruction in Microsoft Windows 10, cyber security, online shopping, Google, and Facebook.
In addition, a computer expert will be on site next week to evaluate electronic devices and help with repair. There will be senior discounts, Capozzola said.
"We're excited to be open. We're telling people the opposite of what we tell our children. We say, 'Get off those computers. Go outside to play.' We're telling (seniors), 'Get a cup of coffee (available to purchase), find some interesting sites and research away."
