First Selectmen Steve Dunn was in attendance in honor of the grand opening and to celebrate the season.
The market specializes in serving up fresh vegetables, grilled clams, scented candles, Greek oils, gift baskets, plants, fresh produce and much more.
“This market has been going on for the last five years, and we want to support the local farms,” says Cathy Lesser, who has been the organizer of the market each year.
“We have about three farms, a shellfish farm, vinegar, candles, and the friends of the library that help make this market possible,” Lesser added.
A sign on the graffiti bridge in Brookfield reminds visitors to head on over to the market.
One unique vendor is Lakeshore Candles, which is right out of Brookfield. The handmade candles are 100 percent soy and made with custom-blended fragrances. This was the first day of showing them off to the public, and they seemed to be a hit.
One that stood out was the breakfast scent candle. Opening the jar, it gave off the aroma of fresh eggs and bacon.
The wicks are dipped in vegetable oil, which means that they will stay lit longer then the average candle and have a longer lifespan.
Overall, the market is a great place to meet friends, learn about the different farms in the area, and pick up fresh foods.
“It has been a great first day, and I am looking forward to more,” said Lesser.
The market will be open Fridays from 3 to 6:30 p.m. until Oct. 28. At the end of the market day, outdoor concerts will be held at the Municipal Green through Aug.26.
The market is located at 100 Pocono Road at the Town Hall in Brookfield.
