The shop at the Brookfield Craft Center sells items from nearly 150 artists. Most of the art is from local artists, but some of the stock comes from artists as far as Arizona and Seattle. On Friday morning, the shelves and tables were lined with merchandise. Truth be told, there’s something for everyone.

“(Customers) love it because there is so much variety — things you won’t see anywhere else,” according to the center’s Executive Director Howard Lasser.

Items for sale range from glass to ceramics to jewelry. There’s also clothing for the cold winter months, including scarves and hats — and there's mugs for warm coffee or hot chocolate, too.

Some of the gifts are simply dazzling. Lasser recently found some intricate wood bowls for sale in the store.

“You wonder how someone could possibly do that by hand,” Lasser said, amazed.

He said his daughter, who now lives in Baltimore, asked for ornaments in the shape of an acorn. She wanted to give it to a friend, Lasser said, its color reminded her of the Baltimore Ravens. She found what she wanted at the store.

Unlike many stores, the proceeds from the center’s store go to help the artistic community.

“We’re not selling for profit,” Lasser said. “All of the money goes back to the artists themselves and the crafts center.”

Lasser said the holiday season is by far the busiest season of the year for the shop. About 90 percent of all its yearly sales will come over the next few weeks, according to Lasser.

The Brookfield Craft Center is located at 286 Whisconier Road just short of the junction with Route 202.

It’s hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays; noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
