The participants were practicing tabata, a high-intensity interval training workout led by Kim Petruska, owner of Feeling Fit exercise studio in Brookfield.

About 35 women showed up for the Ladies Night Out, which also included a yoga demonstration, a talk about the benefits of massage and plenty of food and socializing.

Laura Schechter of Danbury, who attended the event, said it was a lot of fun. "I liked the tabata. I like knowing there is something I can do to help me warm up a little bit so I'm ready for my run," said Schechter, who is a teacher.

Linda Malarkey of New Milford said she is a huge fan of massages. "They relieve every ache and pain," she said, adding she gets a massage every two to three months, "before a big race."

"Massages improve my turnover. My legs feel lighter. I sleep better for the next few days," said Malarkey, who is an accountant.

Tara Nicholson, 42, of Newtown said not only did she have a great evening socializing and getting health tips but she also purchased a new pair of running shoes. "I switched from Ons to Hokas. Hokas are very light. Maybe they will improve my speed," said Nicholson, who is in customer support.

Alene Lofink, manager at Woodbridge Running Company, said, "It was great to have women from the community get together and share stories of their fitness journey. I look forward to scheduling another Ladies Night in the fall."
