BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- The heat wave is underway and so is a campaign to protect the environment and energy costs of Brookfield homeowners.

Brookfield homeowners can have their home inspected for air leaks by Eversource approved contractors through the HES program.

Local contractors have been approved by utility company Eversource to identify air leaks that allow cool air to escape into the atmosphere and drive up energy costs for homeowners.

Air leaks can affect a home's durability, comfort and overall indoor environment. Moreover, air can escape under doors and through leaky windows. Less obvious places are ductwork, outlets, attic entrances, recessed lights and moldings, say experts.

According to the Department of Energy, air movement is the reason most water vapor problems appear within a home or building.

Mold growth and poor air quality to structural damage are among the negative effects of moisture in a home.

Brookfield residents can sign up for Home Energy Solutions (HES) to address those areas where conditioned air is leaking out of their home, especially now that summer is here.

The contractor for $99 will visit the home or apartment to identify the areas that need caulk and foam, and make repairs on the spot.

In addition, they can evaluate the home’s overall efficiency performance and fix additional problems, like inefficient lighting, hot water pipe insulation and water flow from faucets and shower heads.

Then they will provide you with a customized plan with other efficiency recommendations, valuable rebates and financing options to help you save energy, money and keep the home comfortable.

Now through Dec. 31 $25 will be donated to the Brookfield Fuel Bank for every resident that participates in HES.

The money will be donated by Brookfield’s HES contractors, The Energy Store and HE-Energy Solutions.

To sign up for HES, visit EnergizeCT.com or call (877) 947-3873.
