Wintry Mix May Cause Hazardous Conditions In Bridgeport At Start Of Week

The spring fling that has marked Christmas week weather-wise across Fairfield County will come to an abrupt end as the final workweek of 2015 starts Monday.

A storm system that dumped as much as a foot of snow in parts of the Southwest will approach the Fairfield County area from the south Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

The area enjoyed a record high temperature on Christmas Day of 64 degrees in Bridgeport, breaking the old record of 59 set in 1964. And another record-breaking day for warmth could be in store for Sunday, with a high temperature approaching 60 degrees possible with showers and fog likely.

But then comes the blast of winter.

A storm system that dumped as much as a foot of snow in parts of the Southwest will approach the area from the south Monday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook that includes Northern Fairfield County as well as much of Connecticut and the Hudson River Valley.

The advisory calls for the potential for an accumulating wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain Monday night into Tuesday before a transition to rain on Tuesday.

"The probability of 6 inches of snow is slight at this time," the National Weather Service said, "but the first accumulating wintry mix of the season has the potential cause a hazardous Tuesday morning commute."
